Arrival to Reykjavik. After we arrive to Reykjavik we will visit one of the city pools and soak the jetlag away in hottubs and have a nice swim. Walking tour harbor area. Check into the hotel, then have free time to wonder the shopping district before dinner. Day 1 includes a very nice 5 course welcome dinner. After dinner we will take a 21:00 Northern Lights Cruise out on the water.
Day 2 is the famous golden circle. We will depart Reykjavik after breakfast heading out on the golden circle, where we will visit Geysir and the famous waterfall Gullfoss. After the golden circle and lunch, we will visit one of the greenhouses and learn about how Iceland grows most of its vegetables using Geothermal heat. We will stay in Hvolsvöllur in the south on day 2
Day 3 is all about Glaciers and Waterfalls. We will be travelling the south Iceland Coast. We will be driving by countless waterfalls worth stopping at and taking small hikes. This day includes a couple of hours around the breathtaking
Jökulsálon (the Glacial Lagoon). The icebergs floating out to see are just amazing. We will have a nice seafood dinner in the fishingtown of Höfn. Then we will continue to Djúpivogur. This is a beautiful, lonely, winding road along the coast and fjörds, just perfect for seeing northern lights, with no light pollution.
Today we will travel north along the east fjörd villages. Each village in the east fjörds has it´s own beauty and character. The main industry is fishing. We can stop for a swim in Eskifjörður, or at one of the new Spa´s outside of Egilsstaðir. We will have a nice lunch, a hike, and then head north to Þórshöfn. In Þórshöfn we will have a special Icelandic Feast upon arrival. In the evening we will set out to the old airport where there is a nice DC- 3 that crash landed in the 1960s. It makes a perfect back drop for photos with the northern lights.
Langanes Peninsula. No tour to the north would be complete without visiting one of the most remote and beautiful places. Langanes teams with all sorts of sea birds along the the cliff. We will view Winter birds at the observation platform, and also Skálar (abondoned fishing village) Picnic (grilled lunch) at Skálar. We will spend the day out on the peninsula. We will return for dinner and after we have options to view northern lights from the abandoned US military base on Heiðarfell, or from Arctic Henge in our neighboring village.
