If you want to explore Iceland, off the beaten track, and at relaxing pace, seeing what Iceland has to offer away from all the mass tourism, then this trip is for you. Six days, all inclusive, along the Arctic Coastal Way, to see all the sights the north has to offer.
After arrival at Keflavik Airport, you will meet your guide and head to Reykjavik for a swim at a local pool, heated by natural water. Perhaps it is time to soak your jet lag away in a warm salt hottub. After relaxing, depart for North Iceland‘s Atlantic Coastal Way. We will stay in Blönduós in beautiful Cabins on the river, equipped with hottubs for relaxing.
After breakfast, we depart on the Arctic Coastal Way. We will explore Trollaskagi peninsula. After a short one hour drive, we will stop to hike along the beach and islands. Siglufjörður is where we will have lunch and visit the herring museum. Stroll around town. Next stop is the beer spa, where you can soak in a local beer hot tub, while sampling some of Iceland‘s best micro brewery beer. We will visit a local tannery and museum on the way to Akureyri. Akureyri (capital of the north) is our destination for the day. We will have a walking tour of the town, and a nice 3 course dinner.
Depart for Mývatn Lake. Mývatn is a geological wonder. Mud and water bubble under heat and pressure. There are the Mývatn Nature baths which we will visit. This day is packed with Waterfalls (Goðafoss and Dettifoss), Geothermal energy station, beautiful scenery, Ásbyrgi Canyon, and then we will continue along the Arctic Coastal Way to the Arctic Village (Raufarhöfn) where we will see the Arctic Henge, followed by dinner at the local restaurant. Accomodation will be in Þórshöfn at Sandur Guesthouse.
Langanes Peninsula. No tour to the north would be complete without visiting one of the most remote and beautiful places. Langanes teams with all sorts of sea birds along the cliff. We will view Gannets, puffins, auks, and many other bird species. We will visit the observation platform, and also Skálar (abondoned fishing village) Picnic (grilled lunch) at Skálar. We will spend the day out on the peninsula. When we return to Þórshöfn, you will experience a very special meal at Báran. We will have an Icelandic Feast.
Today we will finish our journey along the Arctic Coastal Way, going on to Bakkafjörður, fishing village. We will have a small 2 hour hike to one of the most beautiful lighthouses in the country. This is an easy hike, and the area remote and again full of bird life. On the way back we will visit a local sheep or goat farm.
After breakfast we depart for Reykjavik by Norlandair´s Twin Otter. This is a magnificant flight as the Twin Otter does not fly very high. Giving you the opportunity
to see the Mid Atlantic Ridge from the air. It is amazing to see the cracks along the land, as the two plates slide apart.
Upon arrival to Reykjavik, we will have a walking tour and lunch, and then depart for KEF Int airport, where you will connect to your International Flight.
